Increase in Electricity Tariff; Customers to Pay More

The latest news to storm Nigerians after a trying period this year is the increase in electricity tariff. As approved by the Regulator; the revised Service Reflective Tariff (SRT) would take electricity tariff plans a spike higher; resulting in fewer units for buying consumers.

SRT was meant to take effect from September 1st, 2020 but was suspended after the Federal Government, Labour Unions, and other stakeholders met to discuss concerns raised about the tariff increase. However, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) approved the tariff spike after a brief wait.

IKEDC leads the pack in tariff implementation

On Sunday, November 1st, 2020, Ikeja Electric (IKEDC) announced via Twitter that they would commence the implementation of the revised tariff immediately.

The DisCo said: “Under the SRT, the tariff classification is based on the quality of service and therefore, divided into 5 Bands (A-E).

“This is measured by the average availability of power supply over a month, interruptions (frequency and duration), voltage levels, and other service parameters.

“With the revised tariff regime, Non-MD customers in Band A, with a minimum of 20 hours daily will now pay N51.22/Kwh.

“Band B customers with a minimum of 16 hours daily will be charged N46.93/Kwh; while Band C customers with a minimum of 12 hours daily will be charged N37.95/Kwh.

increase in electricity tariff

“However, please note that customers in Bands D and E, with a minimum of eight hours and four hours per day, respectively, are not impacted by the tariff revision.”

According to the company; the SRT tariffs of the two bands have been frozen, and consequently, they will continue to be charged the old tariff prior to the introduction of the SRT.

The prepaid meter customers in Bands A to C, who vends from November 1st would be charged the new tariff. The same will be implemented for postpaid customers in these bands during the November billing cycle.

AEDC comes next

Similarly, Abuja Electricity Distribution (AEDC) announced it will begin implementation of the increased electricity tariff with effect from the 1st of November too.

According to AEDC General Manager, Corporate Communication, Mr Oyebode Fadipe, customers on the pre-paid platform will be the first to experience the revised tariff when they vend as from Sunday, November 1st.

“While the revised tariff will reflect in the bills for customers on the postpaid platform when they receive their electricity bills.

“The tariff is divided into five bands and based on hours of supply to the customers.

“While customers on bands D and E have their tariff frozen, those on bands A, B, and C will see some level of reduction in their tariff as they vend.

“The AEDC assures its customers that it will, in line with the spirit and letter of the service reflective tariff, ensure that all customers receive quality service,” he said.

He said that the AEDC was also committed to the improvement of service to customers in all its franchise area.

“We, however, appeal to customers to please see this tariff regime as an opportunity for them to join hands with AEDC to speed up the process of improving the quality of service in the Nigerian power sector.”

AEDC would release the table of payment for the new tariff soon.

Other electricity distribution companies are expected to start implementing the increase in electricity tariff soon as well.

Why Your Transaction on VTpass Might Fail and What to do

While at VTpass we take every measure to ensure every transaction you carry out is successful; we are equally awake of failed transactions that can occur at times.

The majority of failed transactions are down to network issues or processing errors. In this article, we would explain why transactions on VTpass might fail and what you can do about it.

Network affecting bank payment

Payment might fail if network failure prevents your bank from confirming a transfer you initiated. Sever downtime at your bank might be responsible for this. In some cases, your bank might debit you without VTpass would receiving the payment.

The simple solution to this is to consult your bank in the event of a debit or contact VTpass support to know the status of your transaction. If your transaction hasn’t gone through, it’s best you wait a while, then try again when the network is stable.

Entering wrong card details

This is so common and perfectly understandable. Making mistakes while entering card details such as bank name, card number, CVV, etc. would prevent any transaction from going through.

Solution: simply enter your correct card details to ensure a successful transaction. Alternatively, you can activate VTpass instant wallet funding to save yourself the stress and errors of using the card every time.

Entering wrong dealer details

Similar to the reason above, entering the wrong meter number when paying electricity bills; wrong IUC or smartcard number when subscribing to your decoder, etc. would cause a transaction failure. The system would either reject the payment process, or it would stall.

In this case, the solution is to restart the payment process and enter the correct dealer details. If you have been debited upon entering a wrong dealer detail, kindly contact VTpass support to advice you on what to do.

However, we advise you to ensure the correct dealer details every time as certain payments (for example, payment made for a wrong meter number) CANNOT be refunded.

Service downtime with a service provider

No one can be blamed for this. When a service provider is experiencing downtime, payments for that particular service might fail. For example; if IKEDC is experiencing a service downtime, payments for IKEDC during the downtime would fail.

To resolve this, simply wait until the downtime passes before initiating payment for the service again.

QUICK TIPS ABOUT MAKING A WISE INVESTMENT

If you got a penny, you do not bury it in the ground to gather dirt. You utilise it to gain more pennies. So yes, this is an anecdote that emphasizes the need to not just make money, but to use the money to create wealth. In essence, this underscores the importance of investments. So, you have been meaning to invest in some business or venture. But you do not know how to go about it. Or you are very sceptical about the success of the whole enterprise. Well, here are some few handy tips that will take you through how to make a wise investment. But first, you would want to learn how to make life more convenient for you through VTpass.

So, VTpass is an online payment platform that enables you to make payments for your bills easily and quickly. With vtpass.com or with the VTpass app on your mobile phone, you can easily settle your electricity bills, data, airtime, TV subscriptions and much more. And yes, you can pay from wherever you are, at home, in the office. And you get to pay in just three easy steps:

-Log On -Select -Pay

This is quite a good way to save time, energy and money. So go on and pay those pending bills by logging on to vtpass.com or downloading the VTpass app for Android.

So, moving on, here are useful tips to help your investment plans run smoothly.

LEARN YOUR TRADE

It is very common to see people who want to invest in one thing or another. But they don’t know a nickel about whatever it is they are investing in. They trust the judgement of other people. And they believe things will work well if they put in good money and hire great people. This isn’t how it should be. Whatever it is you are going into, you have to learn the trade. You necessarily don’t have to be a PRO in the field. But you need just enough to keep you above your game. This is especially for those who want to go into stocks or cryptocurrency, not knowing what it all about can wreck an investor.

DO NOT TWO-TIME

Another mistake people make is getting the feeling they can do so many things at the same time. As much as being a serial entrepreneur is possible, there is the need to centralize on just one thing. The other things you do should be able to adjust or evolve to that one cause you are out to accomplish. Let’s say, you want to start a restaurant. It wouldn’t make sense to still want to start up a website company at the same time. But then, starting with a restaurant, giving it all the attention it deserves and then expanding it to a hotel or supermarket is a reasonable sort of two-timing.

SET GOALS

Following up on the last point, for your investment to be profitable, you need to see where you want your money to be even before it is there. You need to set goals. Your investment will become what you want it to be. So, dream big and work at it.

LEVERAGE ON FREE OPPORTUNITIES

Right in this world we are, there are very many opportunities out there. So your investment need not be your investment alone. You can go out there and act on leveraging the several opportunities available.

DON’T LISTEN TO GOSSIPS

Now, the news is different from gossips. You can get useful tips about your investments by putting your ears to the ground, and listen for real-time news. But do not, for once, pay attention to the gossips around. And don’t take any decision because everyone is taking it. Know what works for you and stick to it.

SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE RACE

Those who try to be rich overnight make their money from investments. And then, they go on to lose it all in one quick swoop. This is what greed and impatience can do. So, rather than trying to gather your retirement money all at once. Why not take it one step at a time. The sweetest of gains is the one that was bitter in the making.

So, you should now be able to put things in perspective. After knowing what you want to invest in, learn it. Then work your way up your own way. Don’t be distracted by the things on the sidelines. Look out for important opportunities. Grab it and keep doing what you know how to do best.

At VTpass, we love great ideas and we love to see people succeed. It is with this in mind that we are in the business of making life more easier for everyone. So that by logging on to vtpass.com or downloading the VTpass app, you can easily make payment for your everyday bills. Airtime, data, electricity bills, TV subscriptions, name it, you can settle them easily on VTpass. With VTpass, life can only get better.
