How International Airtime Saved My Vacation

This story about how international airtime saved my vacation is entirely true. Except for the parts that are totally made up. True though. It was this one time after I had just gotten married. I’d been working so hard. And didn’t have time off for a proper honeymoon. So when a friend introduced me to a pocket-friendly travel package to Dubai, I jumped at it.

Sent in a leave request which got approved, packed my bags and went off with wifey on a two-week vacation in Dubai. Man was about to taste the baby boy life. Sweetness! Everything was going great. Mehn, we really were not ready for the amazing sights of Dubai!

To say that the view from the observation deck on the 124th floor of the Burj Khalifa was breath-taking is an understatement. An overwhelming work of art. Dubai is fine please! Things work there. Abi I should not come back ni? Lol. By the time the 2-week vacation was coming to an end, we had visited the Dubai Aquarium, spent a full day at the Jumeirah Beach Residence, and taken Sunset Pics at the Dubai Frame. Truly, this was a vacation we didn’t want to end.

Subsequently, disaster struck. Amir had been our dedicated cab driver from when we arrived at the Dubai International Airport, and had opened a tab for us. We were to pay him when he dropped us off at the airport for our trip back to Nigeria. I had kept his cash (about 500 Dirham at this point) aside. Lo and behold, getting to the DXB, it was time to pay Amir. I couldn’t find the cash no more.

What Happened Next…

Me and my wife tried to explain what had just happened to Amir, but it seems some Nigerians had already given us a bad reputation. Amir was irate, and a crowd was gathering. I had no cash, and no way of sending money to Amir, who though he had been nice all through my stay, was suddenly quite agitated. Understandably so. His money was about to walk on a plane back to Nigeria. I honestly didn’t know what to do anymore. That was when my wife reminded me of VTpass, where we pay our bills.

To be honest, I was annoyed. I wondered how VTpass was going to help me pay my cab man in Dubai and save me the embarrassment we were already experiencing, then it hit me. I could pay Amir by purchasing International Airtime from VTpass to his Dubai number, while I pay in Naira on the VTpass platform. Women are geniuses! I explained my solution to Amir and in one minute, it was done. I purchased International Airtime worth 600 Dirham to Amir’s phone and suddenly, I was the best customer again. What money cannot do does not exist truly! We got our bags and rushed into the airport. We could not wait to get back to Naija. No one wants to get stranded in another man’s land truly.

There’s more. On VTpass, you can also buy airtime and data, pay other TV subscriptions and electricity bills, buy insurance covers and pay education bills. All while offering you a variety of payment options and immediate delivery of value!

Well, there you have it. The story of how International Airtime on VTpass saved my vacation, and possibly my reputation.

Super Eagles Crash Against Tunisia

On Sunday, the hopes of a nation were dashed against the rocks as the Super Eagles crashed out of the AFCON against Tunisia. Wow! We sincerely didn’t see that coming. And this was supposed to be the dream team. Nigerians were just beginning to hope. I honestly was already looking forward to the semi finals. Sadly, that was not to be the case.

We were still basking in the euphoria of taking 9 points out of a possible 9 in the group, stages. What more? We got to troll Ghana as they exited the Nations Cup. Then, came the news that Nigeria was to play Ghana in the World Cup qualifier playoffs. We were already making mouth as to how we would destroy the pride of our Ghanaian brothers.

Sunday came. On the other hand, paired against Tunisia, one of the best losers who managed to qualify with a mere 3 points, this was supposed to be a walkover of a game. In addition, the Tunisian team were covid-hit and had limited players available. However, for a side that won all three of their group games and even rested the majority of their stars for their previous match, tournament favourites Nigeria looked out of ideas in the face of some heroic defending.

Subsequently, things went from bad to worse, as substitute Alex Iwobi was shown the red card. Umar Sadiq had the best chance to add to the cup’s growing repertoire of late drama, only to see his shot roll across the face of the goal and wide of the far-post. In conclusion, it wasn’t the night for the Super Eagles, who had their wings clipped against Tunisia

What’s Next?

So, it is what feels like an early exit. Back to the drawing board for Nigeria’s Eagles. Sunday was a dark day, especially if you are an Arsenal fan, who dropped precious points again in the race for the top 4 in the premier league, and can’t seem to win a game at the moment.

Nigeria is out, but you can still keep up with the action at this year’s AFCON. Make your Cable TV paymentspay electricity billsbuy airtime and data easily with VTpass. It’s as easy as click, pay and go to stay connected and enjoy the 2021 AFCON action live!

Super Eagles Soaring at AFCON

On Wednesday night, we got to witness the Super Eagles of Nigeria soar to a 2 – 0 win against Guinea Bissau in their third game of the group stages of the AFCON. The eagles in doing so, became the only side at this year’s AFCON to record a 100% record in the group stages. The only side. That’s some feat!

Nigeria had already won the group before kick-off, reward for victories recorded against Mohamed Salah’s Egypt and Sudan. It’s the first time that the super eagles of Nigeria have won all three AFCON group matches since 2006. Champions in 1980, 1984 and 2013, is it too early to start dreaming of a fourth?

Time will tell. Nigeria is definitely up there though with the likes of Cameroon and Senegal as one of the tournament favourites. And with their record, many sides will be looking to avoid them when the last 16 draw is done.

Hope or Not?

While there are still some good teams in the competition, the Super Eagles go into the draw full of confidence. This team has done well for themselves. Considering the fact that they have played 3, scored 6, and gotten 9 points out of a possible 9, they have done well indeed. What more? They are actually playing good football. This actually looks like a team, rather than the usual composition of individuals we are used to getting.

Truth is, many of us wrote them off before they even kicked a ball. We have had our hearts broken too many times that optimism was on very short supply. However, this current crop have us believing again.

Whichever way it goes, don’t miss out on any of the action at this year’s AFCON. You can easily make your Cable TV paymentspay electricity billsbuy airtime and data with VTpass. It’s as easy as click, pay and go to pay your bills, stay connected, and enjoy the 2021 AFCON action live!

Premier League Week 9: What Went Down

In many ways, this was the perfect weekend; we witnessed the bulk of the Premier League Week 9 round of matches and in many ways, it was a glorious weekend. Some clubs won. Some clubs lost. As always. However, things didn’t go exactly the way some would have planned. Anyway, here are our thoughts on how the weekend went.

Liverpool 5 Steps Ahead of United.

Manchester United looked anything but united on the day. Defence utterly in shambles, midfield non-existent and overrun, attack under supplied. It was the little boys against the big men. This was supposed to be a firecracker of a match but ended up being a walk in the park for the Liverpool team, who at half time were already running away with a 4-0 lead. In all honesty, at that point, Liverpool didn’t even need to be playing spectacularly well, Manchester United were playing spectacularly terrible as it were. United had zero synergy, looked devoid of a game plan, were tactically naïve.

If not for De Gea, the final scoreline should have read something more like 8-0. This was a day to forget for United, and it’s back to the drawing board, if they even have one. Any defeat against Liverpool is hard to take for United fans on a normal day. One so humiliating as this and at home is on a whole different level. United’s next run of matches look very grim. It’s hard times for United fans, check up on them.

Chelsea Thrashes Norwich

Firstly, the major talk had been about how Tuchel was going to manage with his star strikers out due to injuries. On evidence of this though, no problem. Following their win in the Champions League, the Champions proceeded to dismantle Norwich at Stamford Bridge, with Mason Mount scoring an hat trick. Subsequently, Mount and Callum-Hudson Odoi became the 16th and 17th different players to score for Chelsea in all competitions this season, more than any other Premier League side. A team on a mission.

That ability to spread the goals around the side is the mark of champions. For instance, it’s Premier League Week 9, but surely an encouraging sign for Thomas Tuchel as he looks to juggle five competitions this winter, including the rearranged World Cup in early 2022. Chelsea won’t have an easier afternoon this season.

Mancity Pass Brighton Test

Firstly, Brighton have been nothing short of impressive this season. For them to still be 5th on the Premier League table even after defeat here is a testament of just that. Pep had tasted rare defeat here in the final game of last season. In this match, he sent out his team with instruction to secure victory early. City’s first half performance was exquisite. They were smooth, efficient, unbreeched. But they will rarely face an examination like the one they experienced in the second half at the Amex.

Even as they led 3-0, Graham Potter’s Brighton tested everything about City. Their game management, their resilience, their defensive capabilities. And City’s manager Pep Guardiola was delighted they passed the test. He recognised few teams in the Premier League could have emerged from this with three points, despite being 3 goals up at halftime. At fulltime, it was kudos to City, but Brighton also gave a good account of themselves, despite the scoreline.

Premier League Week 8: What We Learnt

As the premier league week 8 kicked off on Saturday, the energy that club rivalry brings came back, and fans absolutely loved it. Country football is great. But club level is where we get to see footballers star, week in, week out. Here are the major talking points.

Leicester Down United

The International break was filled with the buzz around Cristiano Ronaldo and his record breaking 10th hat trick for Portugal. The Manchester United star however, cannot seem to be able to transfer his good fortune to the club. Leicester’s victory was no smash and grab. They beat United, fair and square. Had a better game plan, were hungrier, played better. Overall, they deserved to win here, and win they did. The 4-2 score line is sure to bruise some of the big egos in the United dressing room, but, the earlier the better. United’s upcoming fixtures till November 30th is nothing to be excited about, with Atalanta, Liverpool, Tottenham, Mancity, Villareal, Watford, Chelsea and Arsenal all lying in wait. United is the cherry right now, and everyone wants a bite.

Salah’s The Man

Firmino might have grabbed headlines with his hat trick this weekend, but the name on everyone’s lips on Merseyside is Salah. Mo has his imprint firmly as a club legend already. What a pass for Sadio Mane’s goal! It was a lovely ball he bent around the Watford defence for Mane’s opener. It’s called the pass of a master. A masterpiece of a performance it was, as he went on to score himself at Vicarage Road, courtesy of another mesmeric dribble. 4 years ago, he started his career at Liverpool with a goal at Watford. That season, he went on to rack up 44 goals. Many said he would be a 1-season wonder. 4 years after, however, he only seems to get better and better.

Elsewhere, there were wins for Man city over Burnley, Tottenham away at Newcastle, and Chelsea away at Brentford. Chelsea are sitting pretty at the top of the standings. It’s just Premier League Week 8, but, you know, League titles are won in bits.

BBnaija Season 6 Finale: Lessons From The Show

76 days after, we arrived at the BBnaija Season 6 finale in style! The show has steadily continued to gather a large fanbase over the seasons and season 6 brought with it twists and turns that viewers simply were not expecting. Whether or not you watch the show however, there were lessons to be learnt, and here are a few.

Be Humble.

Immediately the show started this season, every thought Maria was going to be queen bee. She thought so herself. Always in the conversations, pretty, great accent, she was the alpha female to beat, and she knew it. Alas, it would not be so. She was evicted at the beginning of the sixth week. Many viewers even thought Biggie was going to pull a twist to bring her back. That’s how powerful she was. It wasn’t to be so however. Turns out in this life, you have to be humble, or pretend to be. Even general Pere calmed down drastically the moment she got evicted. He got the message. Loud and clear at that!

Character over Content

Although the show and housemates are largely followed because of the content churned out, Nigerians will apparently not hesitate to call rubbish what it is. Boma and Tega felt they were giving us content when they were doing hanky panky in the house, they wouldn’t have expected the backlash that came with it. They got evicted from the show, Tega is battling to keep her mental health as Nigerians keep coming for her from all angles. Boma, to a large extent is less under attack. He wasn’t the married one, after all. Fair? We can’t say. Subsequently though, we doubt any future housemates will be going this route.

There’s Love, and then there’s Saga and Nini

We really don’t understand this Saga and Nini drama. First, Saga fails his task because Nini was angry at him. Next, Nini disappears from the house (her own task). Saga proceeds to make an utter fool of himself, crying, moping about, the entire works, while Nini watches him on TV. It was super obvious Biggie was involved. Nini couldn’t be kidnapped! The amazing thing is that Nini kept mentioning her boyfriend throughout the show. Now that the show has ended, we are waiting to see where things go. Those of you that have found love, please tell us, is this how it does y’all?

Food is the way to a man’s heart, only if you’re a woman

The eventual BBnaija season 6 finale winner, Whitemoney, found out the hard way. Despite the endless and relentless cooking done by Whitemoney through the show, he and Pere never seemed to connect, with Pere adamant to send him packing. It wasn’t until Maria was sent out of the house that Pere calmed down a bit and readjusted his strategy. It is quite interesting to note that Pere and Maria would eat Whitemoney’s food, but still go and nominate him for eviction. This life!

Be Original!

In a world filled with so much acting and pretence, real recognizes real. ex-housemates like Cross, Liquorose, and Angel won several hearts from their time on the show with their originality. Fans will confirm that Cross and Angel seem genuine, so it’s easier to connect with them, and Liquorose was free-spirited and lovable. Little wonder they made it into the final 6. Little wonder!

Know how to cook good food

Seems like a joke, but this rings true. It was debated endlessly if cooking was Whitemoney’s strategy or not. Right now, it doesn’t matter. He won and that’s on periodt! If you’re handy in a place others aren’t, you already have the advantage. You just have to know how to use it well. Find out what makes you indispensable, and press your advantage home

When it’s your time, it’s your time!

I remember myself and my wife talking about those we wanted in the final. She said something very profound. She said “Liquorose deserves to win it, but Whitemoney is graced.” That statement held true as both made it to the final two (we predicted the top 6 accurately if I may add). Whitemoney eventually won. Liquorose, JayPaul, and Whitemoney have tales of coming close to getting into the house in previous seasons and missing out but now, they got to compete for more money,. Clearly, it was their time.

Get a Business To Mind, Literally

As the BBnaija Season 6 finale came to a close on Sunday, Ebuka asked the top 6 housemates “what’s next” as they were being evicted. Practically all of them mentioned “business” amongst other things they were interested in going into. These are housemates who are already millionaires as a result of their winnings from the show. Meanwhile, Onome and Tunji will not go into business because they are still busy slaying. Continue! Sapa will soon come knocking on your door. Get a side hustle, urgent 2k has finished inside market.

Whitemoney is a clown

Ehnehn now! He has to be. He definitely has plans of joining the comedy industry. Or what else could he have meant when he told Ebuka that he wanted to go into music after the show because his voice cannot waste, Mazi! Which voice naaa…

As the curtains close on another season of the show and we eagerly wait for the next, remember that with ppp.vtpass.com, you can buy airtime and data from the ease of your mobile phone. Similarly, you can also pay electricity, and TV bills so you never have a dull moment. After all, you’re going to need content until the next show comes your way.
